Allow me to bring you something that looks like something out of the future. The Sauber-Mercedes C9! Prepare yourself for a photodump and a little history!
The car started out with a M117 twin turbo V8 from Mercedes. After a not so successful year, Mercedes decided to go and fully back the team(I mean wouldn't you right!?!!?). They gave them a DOHC V8, dubbed the M119. The engine can also be found in 500E! Aided with twin turbochargers it made 810Nm of torque at 3500 RPM and peak power of 720hp at 7000RPM. Basically this is very 'Murican engine. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
This is my current wallpaper. It is perfect. Also, its predecessor's downforce was very effective posting the second highest top speed at Le Mans, but it was also very unstable. So unstable that it flipped on one of the hills in 1985. Obviously they had to work some stuff out. In 1988, the downforce was so great that the tires would burst due to the forces at high speeds. Basically, they were scared to race at Le Mans that year.
It has a 5-speed transmission. I don't know, I just found that strange. I guess it might be stronger than a 6-speed.
In 1989 they won 7 out of 8 races, including Le Mans where, as we know, it rains every year(fun fact: didn't rain that year like most years). This is fairly basic information that I picked up here and there. I really want a book on these cars, but alas that is expensive! If you want to know more, go on da internet!!
Sauber skipped the C10 name cause it is very very difficult to pronounce in German. They then made the C11, and after that they had to follow the FIA new rules. Their new car had a flat 12, it is called the C291 if i remember correctly. Whoever finds an exhaust video gets a cookie.
